Way back on MLK Day the kids learned about Martin Luther King Jr., his accomplishments, and studied his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Then they made mobiles expressing their own dreams. Each mobile included students’ dreams for themselves, their school, family, and country. I recently took the mobiles off the bulletin board, but they are too interesting, inspiring, and moving to be forgotten. Their dreams for America are my favorite so I have put those first. Here are their dreams:
My Dreams for our Country:
Peace
End the war
Stop the violence
Stop hunger
Stay neutral
Everyone to get along
No more racism
Everyone to have something to eat and somewhere to sleep
Famous people to be punished like regular people
Quit getting fat
Be fair to all types of people
Recycle trash and stop pollution
Keep my mom safe and make sure she comes home safe (her mother is in Iraq)
Dreams for Myself:
Control my anger
Be int he NFL
Get straight A’s
Go to college and get a good job
Become a singer
Become smarter
Be a better person
Become a basketball player
Have a career
Do my best
Live forever
Not get upset about little things
Dreams for My Family:
Be nicer to my brothers
For them to be rich
Be happy
Have a good life
Be loving and caring
Have more family time
That everyone would be safe
For everyone to get along
To get to a good neighborhood
Come together and talk at holidays
To not get in fights
To get out of the ghetto
Help each other out
Dreams for My School:
That I will not get in trouble
Better grades
Better food
No more uniforms
Nicer teachers
More field trips
Everyone gets an education
Less arguing
Pass 7th grade
